The Mysteries of Cyberpunk 2077 & FF:06:B5 – Cyberpunk: Tales From The Oasis (2024)

Cyberpunk 2077 is a lot of things to a lot of people.

For some, it’s ‘the thing we sacrificed years of our life making, only to have people make fun of us when we released it’, or ‘that shooter that was a buggy broken mess on launch’ – for many it’s ‘their favorite game since they fixed everything in the 1.5 patch’.

But to me, someone who preordered it and beat it within a week, Cyberpunk 2077 has felt… like there’s something missing, but I couldn’t put my finger on it.

When I’m not narrating or producing, I write software for fun. After the release of Cyberpunk 2077, I was disappointed in the bugs (as many people were), but the story was fun and I had a blast playing it, even if the game felt a bit short.

I was extremely excited to go back through on a second playthrough once all the bugs had been cleaned up, but didn’t get back into it until recently – and on my return to Night City, I was struck with the same feeling of joy and discovery I had the first time, and plowed through as much of the content as I could.

Without the blanket of small bugs and annoyances that had plagued my first playthrough, I had a much smoother, more enjoyable ride through the story and side missions, but as I played and completed more and more, I started getting this slow creeping feeling that there was A LOT MORE to this game than it was letting on.

For instance: Why are some doors locked… but some are just ‘not interactable?’

I didn’t buy the explanation of the locked doors covering cut content – I know how long it takes to develop something, and cutting that much content would be madness, no matter how broken it was.

So I did what everyone does when they want to find the current state of ‘secret finding’ in a game – I went to youtube and found this video which did a pretty great job of getting me up to speed. Thanks JuiceHead!

Now, the idea of there being more things to Cyberpunk 2077 isn’t new – the devs have hinted that there are many many undiscovered secrets and mysteries, and fans have been searching for these mysteries since the game’s release – none moreso than the /r/FF06B5 subreddit.

But so far all leads and investigations have turned up empty…

Which brings us to the reason we’re all here…

I made some discoveries about Night City and FF:06:B5 last week.
It was a wild ride that had me fluctuating between thinking I was literally going mad or I was dreaming – and unlike anything I’ve ever seen in a game before.

Now, I won’t be sharing what I found, or providing the actual answer… yet. Figuring out FF:06:B5 was a blast, and you’ll have the most fun if you let it be your own personal journey – so I highly suggest only reading as many hints as you need to start doing your own investigation, as this is 100% possible to solve on your own.

That being said, the /r/FF06B5 subreddit has been struggling to get started, and seems to be fixated on the wrong things. These things MAY be important later (I still haven’t uncovered all the mysteries either!) – but until you understand a few things about Cyberpunk 2077, you won’t get very far.

Let’s clear up some stuff first:

  1. My save is mostly complete (minus a few fixer missions and some NCPD requests and weapon/vehicle/clothes collection) – so it’s possible some of the hints I describe here will not appear until you complete some specific mission or side mission.
  2. I have not yet encountered any new named journal missions, or dialog options within missions that people were not aware of.
  3. I did not complete any item collections, or vehicle collections – nor did I go out of my way to collect rare or obscure items, so I don’t believe these things are required to experience these hints.
  4. I haven’t uncovered everything, and it could be (is likely?) possible to discover the secret behind FF:06:B5 from an entirely different direction.
  5. The devs have locked content behind encrypted file chunks that are loaded in dynamically – you won’t be able to find it by noclipping unless they already want you to see it, and they can load/unload whatever they want without you noticing (most of the time) – but if you’re starting to make real progress, you may run into hiccups, stutters, and gameplay bugs/glitches that rival the ones we saw at launch.

Which is honestly perfectly understandable, since I imagine this content has not been tested thoroughly (though that is probably about to change! 😅)

  6. As of now I haven’t found any dialog options or choices that prevent you from discovering the ‘main’ secret behind FF:06:B5 – and due to the nature of FF:06:B5, I am unsure it’s even possible to lock yourself out of it through gameplay. HOWEVER…
  7. I play on PC, and given the wording of CDPR’s last release specifying that some of the secrets hidden in Night City are not available on last gen consoles – I am unable to confirm whether or not any of the clues I followed will appear on those consoles. If you are playing on a last-gen console, become obsessed with this mystery at your own risk.

Alright enough teasing – here we go.

Today’s post will contain a set of three hints, done by describing what I was doing when I learned something, what I learned, and some questions I asked myself that led me to the next information.

As mentioned I suggest only using as many hints as you need- not because I want it to take longer, but because there’s still lots to uncover, and if you follow the exact same path I did, you may miss out on some context I skipped!

Lastly – chill out. Don’t think too hard, just have fun searching and experimenting.

There’s more going on in this game than what appears on the surface.

Hint #1:

Spoiler

After completing all 10 of Misty’s Tarot Cards available in the city (haven’t completed any of the endings yet) I went back to talk to Misty, and I realized I hadn’t been back since I had completed the monk mission (though that’s not relevant or necessary). She gave the same lines as usual post-tarot-discovery, and post-monk-mission… But she mentioned that if I ‘saw [the monk] around again’ that I should send him in her direction- which is odd wording considering he doesn’t appear again in the game (yet…?) as far as we’re aware.

So, I started looking for him.

I found his hideout easily thanks to /r/FF06B5, but sure enough there wasn’t anything there.
So, I started walking around the sidewalks in that area, hoping I would see him sitting on a bench in a corner or something… when I noticed something else a bit strange.

There were two Kiroshi logos in front of a store I’d never looked twice at – a store that had a blurred window until I walked up to it. Also one of the logos seemed to have wifi signals emanating from it.

The Mysteries of Cyberpunk 2077 & FF:06:B5 – Cyberpunk: Tales From The Oasis (3)

Not too peculiar, but a bit odd.

I scanned the Kiroshi logo, didn’t seem to do anything. Scanned the second Kiroshi logo (“look where your eyes can’t see…” – CDPR), but scanning either didn’t seem to do anything. I sat there for a bit, Googling the name of the store, when suddenly my arm bumped my speaker volume knob, and turned it up a bit too loud…

And that’s when I heard it.

It was almost imperceptible at first… But sure enough, there was a small… electronic beeping sound. It sounds kind of like the interference that would occur with older cell phones and speaker systems, not dissimilar to this, but still a bit different.

The Beep only happens occasionally (or sometimes not at all…), but I discovered that if I was standing in the right spot and didn’t walk around, it seemed to happen every 8-16 seconds or so (or… every 1-2 in game minutes.)…

Weird, right? Well, more interestingly…

I discovered the ‘Beep’ was coming from a direction… and if I stepped across the street, I saw a second set of double kiroshi logos a short distance away.

Questions I had at this point:

  1. Where is the Beep coming from?
  2. Why here?
  3. Are these logos and the beep just a coincidence/asset re-use? Or is there something more going on here?

Hint #2:

Spoiler

So, I followed the beeps all around night city, wandering around like a man possessed, stopping every few feet and scanning the Kiroshi symbols… and sure enough, the Beeps were DEFINITELY coming from… somewhere. Once I heard the beep and started going in that direction, if I stopped every few feet, eventually (most of the time!) I would hear the beep again, and get a new idea of which direction to go.

I followed those damn beeps for hours, and literally walked from one side of Night City to the other, on foot, over a full IRL day – following the beep as far as I could, and then looking for another Kiroshi symbol to scan (?) to ‘find the beep again’. But this method was maddeningly inconsistent and no matter how sure I was in the direction I heard the beep coming from, I would eventually lose it before finding anything interesting.

I felt like I was teetering on the brink of madness following these beeps, and was just about ready to post to /r/FF06B5 and pass the baton to someone else…

And then I found myself in this part of the city:

The Mysteries of Cyberpunk 2077 & FF:06:B5 – Cyberpunk: Tales From The Oasis (5)

Where there are LOTS of these symbols… and just about as many beeps!

This is the point last week on Tuesday when I started mapping them out to see if their placement meant anything – they seemed to be placed intentionally, and quite a few of them had near-perfect direct line-of-sight to each other… which was causing my ‘software developer’ senses to start tingling.

I also went to /r/FF06B5 to see if they had heard of this… and there were a few posts from people talking about hearing soft clicks or beeps occasionally – but they were immediately dismissed, and so they conversations never went anywhere.

I’ll save you some time hunting for ‘targets’ (as I began calling them) – here’s the ones I mapped out before I realized what was going on – If you’re in a different area, try making a map like this for yourself of where you see the Kiroshi logos!

The Mysteries of Cyberpunk 2077 & FF:06:B5 – Cyberpunk: Tales From The Oasis (9)

Questions:

  1. Why are these logos placed the way they are?
  2. Why do some of them have the wifi signal, and some don’t?
  3. If the beep was leading me to each of these logos… Where could it be coming from?

Hint #3:

Spoiler

One of the Kiroshi logos doesn’t have a second logo attached to it like the others… and it also seems to have a double storefront!

Additionally, the hotel (and some other places… have double logos but placed side by side instead of at an angle… and still no wifi signal!)

…Heh you didn’t think I’d make it that easy did you?

Go find that single Kiroshi logo with the wifi signal, and you’ll figure out where the beeps are coming from… and open up the next fun rabbithole.

Questions I was asking myself after this:

  1. Okay, this is getting freaky, what the f*ck is actually going on?
  2. Has the ‘Beep’ always been there? Or did I need to do something to trigger it?
  3. How necessary is mapping these points?

Alright, that’s all for now folks! Hopefully this didn’t disappoint (though, knowing /r/FF06B5, y’all will still manage to look this gift bike in the exhaust pipe 😜).

There’s a LOT more stuff I uncovered, but this should give everyone the gentle push needed to get going, and I don’t want to spoil more than is necessary – this whole experience has been a mindf*ck of a rabbithole and you should see it for yourself!

I’ll be watching the FF06B5 subreddit to see how y’all progress, and if momentum is still slow I’ll post another update on Wednesday!

(If this guide helped you out at all, please consider checking out Cyberpunk: Tales From the Oasis, a short, 30 minute narrative Actual Play with very tight editing, a bangin’ soundtrack, and lots of anti-capitalist rants. Check out the Prologue here!)

PS: For all of you that actually visited the site, thanks! We don’t actually use ads or trackers or make any money when people visit, so I very much appreciate the rehosts – spread the word so we can get more Beep hunters out there!

We’re entirely listener (and self) funded. As a token of appreciation, here’s the exact state of my character when I took that picture – if you aren’t hearing the beeps, I would suggest upgrading to level 3 Kiroshi Optics, though I don’t know if that’s necessary, as I don’t have a save that goes that far back!
